Kathryn Kelly, Cape Coral, FL June 29, 2011 begins my 3rd year in SW Florida working with the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet! Two years ago I was certified through the Art Without Boundaries Program, and began practicing MnemeTherapy®. I am now serving as a MnemeTherapist in Lee, Charlotte and Collier Counties and provide a quality art activity in approximately 30 seniors facilities. I’ve have had the opportunity to speak about MnemeTherapy® to Alzheimer’s Associations, Regional Activity Directors Meeting, be interviewed by Channel 2 NBC News, do stories for local newspapers, magazines and “art shows”, presenting client’s beautiful artwork to family and friends in Southwest Florida. In December of 2010 I became certified as a Master MnemeTherapist MMT which gave me the opportunity and challenge of training and certifying other student apprentices around the country. 2011 brought forth three new therapists- Dana Warwick of Columbia, SC, Laura Harms of Lansing, Michigan, and Mary Jane Walker of Brooksville, FL. All three have established thriving practices. I am very proud of their hard work and dedication to excellence and care. MnemeTherapy® is truly a” boundless” experience in the arts that anyone, young or old, can benefit from and enjoy- if they are “just willing to try”! My professional art experience has been interesting and fun, but it really can’t compared to the joys I see every day working with my clients! There is nothing quite like watching faces light up when their painting takes shape before their eyes and physical and mental limitations don’t seem to matter anymore. Serving others with your talents is the ultimate joy in life! Past experience as a health care professional and the caregiver of a parent has helped me understand the complexities of my clients’ world. Perhaps raising 3 kids, home schooling and being the wife of a Marine Corps Colonel has given me patience and grace as well! I consider myself a very blessed woman- having a wonderful, supportive husband of 40 years, family, friends- and having a job that I love and find rewarding is great! | I had the privilege of working with this former prodigy of the late Norman Rockwell. He helped her get a job as an illustrator for the Milton Bradley Company when woman couldn't! Stayed 30 years! She had not painted in years because "she forgot how", but she "remembered" during the process- (see her pinky finger?)She finished the oval card box (purple tulips) for the grandaughter, she helped raise, who was getting married. The box got top billing." |
