Q: Is the certification recognized by the Government? A: As mentioned earlier, MT is not Art Therapy, which is a psychological process and needs extensive training and licensing by the state. Although we consider MT a therapy, which is defined as: "healing power or quality," the process: singing, painting and storytelling falls under the umbrella of activities, that do not require a license or supervision by any government. .Q: Is this a franchise? A: No. AWBA is non-profit, professional association seeking to further MnemeTherapy and the interests of individuals engaged in that profession. AWBA provides training, certification of competency and continuing education. You will be operating your own private practice that will be part of a Professional Association to which you will pay dues. Once you graduate, your business is your own. You will join the membership and sign an Membership agreement and the Code of Ethics. Beyond that, we do not assign or protect service areas or control your business in any way. Membership entitles you to:
Q: If I got started and decided this wasn't for me, could I get a refund? A: Anyone can walk away whenever they please and if they are making payments, do not have to pay their balance, but the membership fee is non-refundable. I include this question (that someone really asked) because I want everyone to do their homework and make sure they are "called" to do this work. If you have never been around nursing homes or autistic schools, you need to volunteer or at least visit. Make sure this is where your heart is. I love what I do. I love to see smiles on those wrinkled faces and the loving hugs of my autistic clients. I don't mind that they might drool or fart or pick their nose. Click on Larry Homan's picture. He's our first male MMT. But not everyone feels that way. If you are impatient, can't stand imperfection, are put off my people who are not "normal" or expect to get rich, you better look elsewhere. Q: Will there be other MnemeTherapists working in my area? A: This last answer is important, so please read carefully. Although membership in AWBA is required to become certified in MnemeTherapy and we do not "sell territories" or assign service areas, we can, however, make it clear to applicants that MnemeTherapists have a limited market. MnemeTherapists work in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehab centers, adult day centers, autistic schools/ programs and with individuals who are willing to pay for the service, Therefore, some areas, with low population density may not support more than one practice. Some larger, urban areas could. Here's what it says in our Membership Agreement:
If you live in a rural or sparsely populated area, even if there isn't a Member in your area, you still need to do your homework to see if there are enough of these potential places within driving distance. Next, you are going to see the registry of our Members and Students so you can decide if you are going to apply. Some Members are looking for independent contractors to train to work their area. They will be highlighted. Please note that students are in blue on the registry and cannot hire until they receive their MMT designation, which may take several months. You can be put on a waiting list and contacted if they leave the program. OK! You've almost made it!! One more click and you're at the instructions! You know how to get there! |
Q & A |
" Throughout the process of studying for certification and starting up my business, I have always felt that my mentor was readily available with support, answers and encouragement. Now that my certification week is over, I am more positive than ever that she will be sitting on my shoulder, whispering encouragement in my ear as I make my way through this endeavor. She is the spirit of AWB and she's there for us - always." Debra La Bar. Western North Carolina |
