April Atlas- Master MnemeTherapist
For as long as I can remember, I have thought of myself as an artist:
drawing, painting, needlework, pottery, sewing, relishing my creativity and
making things with my hands. I also enjoy helping others make art and find
ways to generate a little satisfaction -- to smile and realize "I made that!"
After 14 years in Boulder, Colorado, where I completed my BA in fine studio
arts at the University of Colorado, my husband and I returned to South
Florida. I operate a home-based art studio and teach drawing, watercolor
painting, and clay hand-building to small groups of children and adults.
Over the years I’ve volunteered with various community groups: the Boulder
County Safehouse, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, Denver Art Museum,
Miami quilt guild, Ceramic League of Miami, Lowe Art Museum, and Miami-
Dade Division of Cultural Affairs.
Art Without Boundaries will provide a new path for me to help others
discover their creativity. Working as a MnemeTherapist will give me
opportunities to have a meaningful, rewarding career and a flexible
schedule.
After observing founder Noell Hammer work with clients with serious
challenges in a senior day care center, I was deeply moved. With my own
eyes, I witnessed small but significant shifts in each individual painter
during the short span of their session. The "patchwork" of my varied
experiences will help me in the Art Without Boundaries program and the
challenging work that lies ahead.
